East Devon football preview: Eyes on the Tigers as FA Vase action comes to Axminster

With Exmouth Town not in action this weekend owing to a positive coronavirus test in their camp, the main spotlight in terms of East Devon club action is on the FA Vase tie at Tiger Way, Axminster.
The Tigers are at home to Toolstation Western League side Clevedon Town (3pm kick-off) and, despite the two teams’ very different league form, cup matches are renowned for throwing up the unexpected.
Axminster Town AFC go into the contest off the back of Wednesday night’s 3-0 defeat at Brixham – a seventh loss in eight South West Peninsula League games this season.
Clevedon Town sit eighth in the Western League top flight table having won three, drawn three and lost two of their eight league outings so far this season.
Honiton Town FC, edged out by a last-minute penalty in a midweek 2-1 defeat at Newton Abbot Spurs, are in home action with Tiverton-based outfit Elmore the visitors to Mountbatten Park (3pm).
Sidmouth Town AFC do not have a game; their midweek match at Elmore was called off owing to a waterlogged pitch at Horsdon Park.
And that was also the fate that befell the Vikings’ scheduled home match last Saturday with Manstone Lane unfit for play.
Sidmouth are next in action next weekend (October 17) when they travel to Ivybridge Town before a run of three successive Saturday home matches.
Exmouth Town FC’s positive Covid-19 test has also meant the Southern Road men have bene forced to cancel another match.
Wednesday’s (October 7) league home meeting with Parkway and the scheduled FA Vase tie at Sherborne Town tomorrow (Saturday) were called off earlier this week.
Now their game at Tavistock next Wednesday (October 14) has also had to be called off.
