Firefighters rescue trapped man from an overturned car near Ottery St Mary

A trapped driver was rescued by firefighters when his car rolled on its side near Ottery St Mary on Saturday evening.

Fire crews from the town and Honiton were called to the B3177 Alfington Road to help police and the ambulance crew after the vehicle turned over.

When the emergency services arrived they found the driver trapped inside his vehicle and fire crews worked fast to free him.

After the driver of the car was freed, he was taken to hospital by ambulance.

A fire service spokesman said: “Crews were mobilised from Ottery and Honiton to assist police and ambulance crews with a vehicle that had rolled onto its side.

“On arrival, one male was confirmed still trapped inside the vehicle and crews made rapid progress to extricate him safely.

“He was transported to hospital by land ambulance and we wish him all the best in his recovery.”
