Exmouth RNLI called to help ‘yacht in difficulty’ on River Exe

Exmouth RNLI was called to aid a 22ft yacht reorted to be in difficulty on the River Exe north of Starcross.

The town’s inshore lifeboat D-755 Peggy-D was launched yesterday (Friday, September 25) at around 2.20pm following a call from HM Coastuard.

Its volunteer crew Scott Ranft, James Searle and James Edge reached the supposedly stricken vessel around ten minutes later.

The crew member was equipped with all necessary safety equipment…

A spokesperson for the charity said: “It was established that the yacht had problems making progress but the single crew member had received assistance and required no further help.

“The crew member was equipped with all necessary safety equipment and, having secured his safety and that of the vessel, the RNLI crew was stood down and the lifeboat returned to station at 3.30pm.

“It was back on service a short time later.”
