Honiton Bruv’s Bar marks first year of business with ’emotional’ birthday bash

‘Emotional’ birthday celebrations have been held in Honiton after Bruv’s Bar marked its first anniversary since opening.

The business opened its doors in Honiton’s High Street for the first time in September 2019 when the Hagon family – Jim, his his wife, Sharon, son Reece, daughter Shannon and Reece’s wife, Lauren – decided to ‘inject something new into the town’.

Shannon Hagon, owner and bar manager, said Covid restrictions forced a small birthday bash but plans were in the pipeline for a big party once the pandemic was over.

She said: “It wasn’t the big birthday party we had planned before Covid-19 hit, but everyone enjoyed a slice of birthday cake and we decorated the place with first birthday balloons and banners.

“We’ll throw a massive party when it’s safe to do so.

“My family and I enjoyed a lovely meal while we looked back over the year – we all got a bit emotional.”

A year on, the business now employs 14 local people compared to eight when it first opened

Bruv’s Bar launched at the end of September 2019 after a revamp of the former Bar 102, in Honiton High Street.

The Hagon family, who have lived in Honiton for more than 15 years, said they wanted to ‘inject something new into the town’.

The bar earned its name from Jim ‘Bruv’ Hagon, who is well-known for calling everyone ‘bruv’.
