Police investigating the disappearance of a 24-year-old whose car was located in Budleigh Salterton say the body of a woman has been found in the sea off Dorset.
Officers say that, while formal identification is yet to take place, the family of Julia Williams has been told of the discovery.
Julia, from Truro in Cornwall, was reported missing on Friday, September 4.
Her blue Peugeot 207 was located in the Lime Kiln car park in Budleigh in the early hours of Saturday, September 5.
A Devon and Cornwall Police spokesperson said today (Wednesday): “The body of a woman was located in the water at Portland, Dorset, at around 10:40am on Tuesday, September 15.
“Formal identification is yet to take place but the family of Julia Williams have been informed of the discovery.
“The death is not being treated as suspicious and a file is being prepared for the coroner.”
Detectives said on Wednesday, September 9, that ‘active searches’ for Julia had been stopped but the investigation remained open.
Officers and members of the public had mounted an ‘extensive’ bid to find her after she was reported missing.
