Eyewear firm Acuitis in the frame to take over empty shop in Exeter city centre

A French eyewear firm has set its sights on opening a new shop in Exeter city centre.

Acuitis Optical and Hearing Limited has unveiled proposals for 193 High Street, formerly home to budget store This Is It.

Toys, games, party supplies, homeware and kitchenware had been sold from the unit before it shut in January 2019 – and it has remained vacant since.

Acuitis has this week submitted plans to Exeter City Council for a replacement shopfront and for new signage.

The company sells an in-house range of men’s, women’s and children’s optical frames and sunglasses as well as offering audiology assessments and fitting of hearing glasses and TV-streaming hearing aids.

In a statement with the application, the firm says consideration has been given to ensure that the shop front is both aesthetically pleasing and sympathetic to its surroundings.

Exeter City Council will decide the fate of the application at a later date.
