A man was found dead near cliffs in Sidmouth on Friday evening (September 4) after a search was launched for a missing 59-year-old from Tiverton.
Police confirmed a body was found in the Peak Hill area of the East Devon town at around 6.40pm.
Coastguard and paramedics were also called to the incident.
Officers had initially responded to reports of a missing man form Tiverton at around 2pm.
The man’s next-of-kin have been informed and a file will be prepared for the coroner – Devon and Cornwall Police
A Devon and Cornwall Police spokesperson said: “Police were informed of a 59-year-old missing person from the Tiverton area at around 2pm on Friday 4 September.
“Enquiries led police to Sidmouth and police and coastguard commenced a search of the Peak Hill area.
“At around 6.40pm a male was located at the foot of Peak Hill having been seen to fall. Sadly paramedics could not revive the male.
“The man’s next-of-kin have been informed and a file will be prepared for the coroner.”
