Axminster firefighters tackle ‘accidental’ car blaze in Hawkchurch

Firefighters found a car engulfed in flames when they were called to a blaze that spread to a hedgerow in Hawkchurch last night (Saturday, September 5).

A crew from Axminster attended the incident at around 10.25pm.

The cause of the fire is believed to be ‘accidental’ and the vehicle was badly damaged.

The fire severely damaged the vehicle, which was deemed as accidental ignition…a small amount of hedgerow was also extinguished – Devon and Somerset Fire & Rescue Service

A Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said of the Hawkchurch blaze: “One fire appliance from Axminster attended a vehicle fire well-alight on arrival of crews.

“Firefighters donned breathing apparatus and put the fire out using two hose-reel jets.

“A small amount of hedgerow was also extinguished.

“The fire severely damaged the vehicle, which was deemed as accidental ignition.

“Crews left the scene in the care of recovery.”
