Ottery and Axminster fire crews tackle Somerset industrial unit blaze

East Devon firefighters from Axminster and Ottery St Mary were called to Somerset earlier this week to help tackle a large blaze in an industrial unit.

The East Devon crews made up the 10 fire engines, joining two aerial ladder platforms and a pair of water bowsers that worked through the night to tackle the commercial building blaze in Station Road, Ilminster, on Tuesday, September 1.

Crews remained on scene overnight, with Ottery firefighters still in attendance at 6.45am the following morning (Wednesday).

The cause of the blaze is under investigation, the fire service said.

  • Axminster firefighters were called to a property in Woodbury Park, Axminster, at around 7.20am on Thursday, August 28, after a neighbour reported hearing an alarm.

Crews carried out an external check of the property but found no smoke or fire at the address.
