Exeter police launch witness appeal after two men are abused racially in city centre restaurant

Police are appealing for witnesses after two men were abused racially at a restaurant in Exeter city centre.

Officers said a man was racially abusive towards two men at Al Farid Restaurant on the Cathedral Green, on Tuesday, August 18, between 5pm and 5.30pm.

Police are keen to hear from anyone who witnessed what happened, or heard any of the words spoken.

Devon and Cornwall Police said a 35-year-old man from Exeter was arrested on suspicion of two counts of racially-aggravated public order. He has been released under investigation pending further enquiries.

A Devon and Cornwall Police spokesperson said: “Two men were subjected to racially abusive remarks by another man at Al Farid Restaurant on Cathedral Green.

“Police are investigating and would like to speak with anyone who witnessed the incident or overheard any of the words said.”
