Police confirm body found on Exmouth beach was 16-year-old local boy, and say death was not suspicious

Police have confirmed the body found on the beach at Exmouth last month was that of a 16-year-old local boy.

Officers were called to Orcombe Point at around 6.20am on Saturday, August 22, where a teenager was declared dead at the scene.

Police said the 16-year-old boy’s death was not being treated as suspicious and a file was being prepared for the coroner.

A Devon and Cornwall Police spokesman said: “This is a desperately sad and tragic incident for everyone involved.

“Our thoughts are with the boy’s family and friends at this difficult time.”

He added: “Police were called at around 6.20am on Saturday 22 August with reports that a body had been found on the beach near Orcombe Point in Exmouth.

“Emergency services attended the scene and a 16-year-old boy was declared deceased.

“The death is not being treated as suspicious and a file is being prepared for the coroner.”
