Exmouth football: Ten-goal triumph in Torquay for Brixington Blues U16s

Exmouth’s Brixington Blues Under-16s were emphatic 10-0 winners when they met Torquay-based Galmpton in a pre-season friendly.

Blues, who have impressed in all their warm-up games so far, were quickly into their stride and they took a sixth minute lead with Adam Watts and Luke Paramore involved in the build-up before a clinical finish from Jack Drew-Cull.

Oscar Gaunt doubled the lead after some impressive approach play involving Matt Wonnacott, Ethan Hawes and Makan Coulibaly.

Scorer then turned provider with Gaunt serving up the assist for a Paramore goal.

Blues skipper Jake Haggerty, who linked superbly with Watts in the midfield throughout the contest then rifled a free-kick towards goal and it drew a fine save from the Galmpton glovesman.

However, moments later the ball was played back into the area when it was flicked home by Ethan Hawes.

Makan Coulibaly made it 5-0 before another Gaunt assist gave Paramore a second goal and Blues a 6-0 lead.

Another terrific free-kick strike from skipper Haggerty came back off the bar only for Matt Wonnacott to be in the right place at the right time to net and make it 7-0.

The final three goals were all scored by influential Brixington Blues captain Jake Haggerty.

Jayden Marles, making a welcome return from injury, won the ball back well and then sent Zac Tilley away and, when he delivered a telling cross into the area, Haggerty struck a slick volley to send the ball flying past the goalkeeper.

Oscar Gaunt provided yet another assist as Haggerty netted again and the skipper completed his hat-trick to wrap up the scoring.

The man of the match award was given to Oscar Gaunt who scored one and had a hand in four other goals.
