Police appeal is launched after man is punched unconscious and left with a broken jaw in Exmouth

A man in his 20s was punched unconscious and left with a broken jaw in Exmouth town centre, sparking a police appeal for witnesses.

Officers said the attack happened in The Strand, close to Exmouth Kebab House, at around 1.15am on Saturday, July 18.

Police said enquiries are continuing and officers want to hear from anyone who may have witnessed the assault.

Devon and Cornwall Police said a 20-year-old man from Tiverton was arrested on suspicion of assault and released under investigation.

And a teenager, also from Tiverton, is helping police with their enquiries after he was interviewed voluntarily by officers.

A Devon and Cornwall Police spokesman said: “Police are appealing for information over an assault in Exmouth in which a man aged in his 20s was knocked unconscious and a suffered broken jaw.

“The incident happened in The Strand, near to Exmouth Kebab House, at around 1.15am on Saturday 18 July.

“Officers have urged any witnesses to come forward.

“A 20-year-old man from Tiverton has been arrested on suspicion of assault and released under investigation.

“A 17-year-old boy, also from Tiverton, has attended a voluntary interview and is helping police with their investigation.

“Enquiries are ongoing into the matter.”
