Firefighters tackle ‘deliberate’ early-morning car blaze near Axminster

Firefighters say an early-morning blaze that destroyed a car near Axminster was started deliberately.

A crew from the town was called to a lane near Coaxdon Hall and Coaxdon Farm at around 1.20am on Saturday (August 15).

They found the vehicle ‘well alight’ in a layby, donned breathing apparatus and used hose-reel jets to tackle the flames.

The matter is now in the hands of police.

The cause of the fire was believed to be deliberate and was left in the hands of the police…

A Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: “One fire appliance from Axminster was mobilised to a report of a vehicle on fire in a layby.

“On arrival fire crews reported the vehicle was well alight and set to work using two breathing apparatus wearers and two hose-reel jets to extinguish the fire.

“The cause of the fire was believed to be deliberate and was left in the hands of the police.”
