Dog dies after falling from cliffs at Budleigh Salterton despite rescue effort

A dog died from its injuries after falling from cliffs at Budleigh Salterton yesterday afternoon (Saturday, August 1).

Exmouth RNLI rescued the pet from the sea after the crew called to an area east of the mouth of the River Otter at around 2.15pm.

The town’s coastguard team also attended the incident.

The dog was initially believed to have been uninjured but later died, the RNLI confirmed this morning.

Pet owners have been urged by the charity to keep their animals on short leads on cliff-tops and to stay away from egdes.

The Exmouth RNLI team was called out again at 3.20pm to help people aboard a 10-metre yacht suffering engine problems 12 miles off Lyme Bay.

On the crew’s arrival at the scene, the issues had been fixed and the veseel was able to make its own way to Brixham harbour.
