New choose and collect service at Ottery Library proves a hit with readers while building remains shut amid Covid lockdown

Ottery St Mary Library is inviting readers to use the choose and collect service while the building remains closed through the pandemic.

Library staff have introduced the new service, now in its second week, where people can phone in or email their book choices, and collect them from the Silver Street branch at an arranged time.

Returned books are quarantined for a set time before they are circulated back for public use, the library staff said.

An Ottery St Mary Library spokeswoman said: “Our building is not yet open to the public instead we are offering choose and collect.

“Customers can telephone or e-mail us. We can select books for our customers and arrange a collection time slot for them to come and collect their books from our foyer.

“We are in the second week of this service and, so far, it is very popular with our customers.

“All the returned books are then quarantined for a period to ensure customer safety.”
