Firefighters tackle ‘deliberate’ shop blaze in Exmouth town centre

Firefighters called to a shop blaze in Exmouth town centre this afternoon (Sunday, July 5) say its cause was ‘deliberate’.

Crews attended a premises in the Parade at around 2.10pm and discovered a small fire in the basement of the three-storey building.

They used thermal imaging kit and a hose-reel jet to tackle the flames.

A Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: “Two appliances from Exmouth, one from Middlemoor and the aerial ladder platform were mobilised to a report of fire in the rear of a shop on the Parade.

“A small fire was discovered in the basement of the three-storey building and was extinguished using one hose-reel jet.

“One thermal imaging camera, small tools and a gas monitor were also used to ensure the scene was safe.

“The cause of the fire is deemed to be deliberate.”
