Firefighters tackle ‘accidental’ car blaze in West Hill

Firefighters from Ottery St Mary and Exmouth tackled an accidental car blaze in West Hill yesterday evening (Sunday, June 28).

Crews were called to West Hill Road at around 7.10pm and found the vehicle ‘well alight’.

Several members of the public had raised the alarm.

Firefighters donned breathing apparatus and used a hose-reel jet to extinguish the flames.

The vehicle was damaged by the fire, the cause of the fire was accidental…

A Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: “Fire Control received a number of calls reporting a vehicle on fire at the above location yesterday evening.

“Fire engines from Ottery St Mary and Exmouth were quickly mobilised and soon arrived on scene, confirming vehicle well alight.

“Fire crews got to work using one hose-reel jet and two breathing apparatus to extinguish the fire.

“The vehicle was damaged by the fire, the cause of the fire was accidental.”
