Arrests made after group allegedly threatened with suspected gun in Axminster

Police are continuing to investigate an allegation that a group of people were threatened in the Axminster area with what was thought to be a gun.

Devon and Cornwall Police were on Tuesday evening, June 23, called to a rural address in Kilmington following reports of a disturbance at around 7.30pm.

Police said a 35-year-old man from Charmouth has been arrested on suspicion of possession of a firearm with intent to cause fear of violence, and dangerous driving.

A further two men, aged 42, and 18, both from the Axminster area, have been arrested on suspicion of a firearm with intent to cause fear or violence.

Police said all three men have been released on bail while enquiries continue.

A Devon and Cornwall Police spokesman said: “A search of the Axminster area, which involved armed officers and the NPAS helicopter, took place.

“A 35-year-old man from Charmouth has been arrested on suspicion of possession of a firearm with intent to cause fear of violence and dangerous driving.

“A further two men, aged 42 and 18, both from the Axminster area, have been arrested on suspicion of possession of a firearm with intent to cause fear of violence.

“All three suspects have been released on police bail until 22 July while enquiries continue.”

The police spokesman added: “An agricultural vehicle, which had been reported as stolen, was recovered during the operation.”
