Police appeal for witnesses after man is pushed into Exeter canal in unprovoked attack

Police are appealing for witnesses after a man in his 50s was pushed into Exeter canal in an unprovoked attack.

Officers said the man was pushed into the water at around 3.10pm on Tuesday, June 6, at the Clapper Brook Lane east swing bridge, at Alphington, Exeter.

The man was approached from behind by a group of people, pushed into the canal then swam to safety, uninjured, said police.

A Devon and Cornwall Police spokeswoman said: “The man, in his 50s, was approached from behind by a group and then shoved into the water.

“Fortunately, he was able to swim and did not sustain any injuries.”
