Naked rambler on coastal path near Sidmouth prompts call to police

A naked rambler out for a stroll on the coastal path near Sidmouth prompted a call to police.

The nude walker – said to be sporting only a hat and bag – was spotted along the scenic public footpath, close to Salcombe Regis, on Tuesday afternoon (May 26).

Officers say the man was deemed to be a ‘naturist behaving passively’ and no offence had been committed.

A woman out on a run along the stretch of coastline with her husband posted on social media that she had encountered the man-in-the-buff – who told her her his starkers antics were perfectly legal.

She said she later reported the matter to police.

A Devon and Cornwall Police spokesperson said this afternoon (Thursday): “A member of the public contacted police on the evening of Tuesday 26 May with a report of a naked man on the coastal path at Salcombe Regis, near Sidmouth.

“There was nothing to suggest the male was anything other than a naturist behaving passively in public, with no offences being committed and no police action necessary on his occasion.”
