Exeter businesses urged to apply for Covid-19 help grants

Hundreds of Exeter businesses invited to make a claim for a grant to help them through the coronavirus crisis have yet to do so.

The city council is helping to distribute £25million of government funding in the form of either Small Business Grants or Retail, Hospitality and Leisure Grants.

Last week, the authority wrote to 2,000 businesses in Exeter inviting them to make a claim.

However, by Thursday evening, only around a third to a half of those businesses eligible had responded.

Exeter City Council director Bindu Arjoon said: “We are ready to pay the money to businesses that are struggling and the funds can be paid into their banks within days.

“All they have to do is respond to the letters or emails that were sent out last week,” she added.
