Radio goes coast-to-coast as Exmouth Air prepares to launch in Sid Valley

Long-awaited plans to extend Exmouth Air radio station’s coverage into the Sidmouth area have been granted after four years in the pipeline.

The radio station, which originally launched as Bay FM and rebranded as Exmouth Air in 2018, has been granted permission by Ofcom to extend its service on 95FM to listeners across the Sid Valley.

Andy Green, station manager, said Exmouth Air hoped to reach listeners across the Sid Valley ‘soon’.

He said: “It’s a very difficult time for many people with this Covid-19 and many people around Exmouth have found us a great comfort which we are looking forward to extending on 95FM across the Sid Valley soon.”

Station founders Julie and Andy Green said plans to cover the Sidmouth area went on hold in 2017 after a radio station launched in the Sid Valley.

Mr Green said Exmouth Air at that time received ‘lots of support’ for extending its coverage.

He said: “We also received letters of support from residents of the Sid Valley who regularly listen to us online and they welcomed the opportunity to receive us on FM in the area too.”

Mr Green added: “There’s no big mast being erected to do this either, just a small low-powered aerial on an existing building.”

In 2019 the station was given a 200 per cent signal boost by regulators Ofcom to improve coverage.

The station recently finished building its second studio, Mr Green said.
