Exeter dustbin lorry blaze started in engine, says fire service

A dustbin lorry on fire in the Redhills area of Exeter this morning was put out by crews from Danes Castle and Middlemoor.

Firefighters and a water carrier responded to Redhills shortly after 11.30am where they found the bin lorry in the street with a small fire in the engine.

A Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue spokesperson said: “Fire engines from Danes Castle and Middlemoor along with a water carrier also from Danes Castle were sent to a report of a dustbin lorry on fire outside properties.

“Drivers and staff were in attendance with the vehicle and on arrival the crews confirmed that there was a small fire in the engine compartment.

“They used a hose reel jet to extinguish the fire and a thermal imaging camera to check for any further heat spread.

“Duty of care of the vehicle was then left with the lorry staff.”
