Woman, 89, has purse pinched in daylight robbery in Exeter

An 89-year-old woman had her purse pinched when she was robbed in daylight in Exeter on Tuesday morning.

Police said the pensioner had her shopping trolley pushed over, the contents of her handbag shaken onto the floor and purse pinched by a woman in her 30s, who then ran away.

Officers are keen to identify the thief, who struck between Velwell Road and Horseguards, Exeter, at around 11.15am, on Tuesday, March 24.

Devon and Cornwall Police described the robber as a white female thought to be in her 30s, of slim build, with dark hair tied back, wearing a red top with black trousers.

A police spokeswoman said: “The woman pushed over the victim’s trolley, spilling her shopping and handbag onto the footpath.

“She has then shaken the contents of the handbag onto the floor and picked up a brown leather wallet before running away.”
