Police are warning motorists travelling along the old A30 at Gittisham to be aware of a loose dog.
Devon and Cornwall Police said the animal has been coaxed into a field near the Nags Head Road and its owners have been contacted.
Police are warning motorists to take care in case the dog escapes again before it can be collected.
Anyone who sees the dog loose on the road is asked to report it to police on 101.
A Devon and Cornwall Police spokeswoman said: “Drivers are asked to be aware if travelling on the old A30 Nags Head Road, Gittisham, following reports of a stray dog in the area.
“The owners are aware and the dog has been coaxed into a field away from the road but may make its way back near the A30.
“Any information regarding a dog on this road should be called in via 101.”
