Exeter: Van and car wrecked in ‘accidental’ blaze in Burnthouse Lane

A van and a car were destroyed by fire in Burnthouse Lane, Exeter, last night (Saturday, February 22).

Crews from Midlemoor and Danes Castle were called to the scene at around 10.10pm and found both vehicles ‘well alight’.

The cause of the blaze is believed to be accidental.

Several people had raised the alarm and called the emergency services.

The Exeter firefighters donned breathing apparatus before tackling the flames.

A Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: “Fire control received several calls for a vehicle fire in the above area.

“Appliances from Middlemoor and Danes Castle were mobilised to this incident.

“On arrival, crews confirmed one van and one car well alight.

“Fire crews used three hose reel jets, four breathing apparatus and compressed air foam to extinguish the fire.

“The cause of the fire is believed to be accidental.”
