Police have issued an appeal after a woman suffered life-threatening injuries in a crash between a car and a van on the A3052 near Branscombe today (Friday, February 14).
Officers are seeking witnesses and dashcam footage following the collision between Seaton and Sidford at around 10.25am.
The 52-year-old casualty was cut free from her vehicle by firefighters and was airlifted to Derriford Hospital in Plymouth.
The incident involved involved a blue Seat Ibiza and a white Mercedes Sprinter van.
A Devon and Cornwall Police spokesperson said: “The Seat was travelling toward Sidford and the Mercedes towards Seaton when the collision occurred.
“The driver of the Seat, a 52-year-old local female, sustained life-threatening injuries and was airlifted to Derriford Hospital.
“Officers from the Alliance Roads Policing Team and local officers attended the scene and commenced an investigation.
“Police are appealing for any witnesses who were in the area at the time of the collision, and may have dashcam footage, to telephone 101 quoting log 261 of the 14th February 2020.”
The male driver of the van was taken to hospital to be checked over, said police.
Firefighters from Sidmouth and Middlemoor attended the scene and worked to free the trapped driver of the Seat.
A fire service spokesperson said: “Crews quickly got to work using hydraulic equipment and small tools to release the person trapped. Crews were also assisted by ambulance and police personnel.
“Both drivers were conveyed to hospital and the incident was handed over to police.”
