Flooding is possible at Exmouth during this morning’s high tide, the Environment Agency (EA) has warned.
A flood alert has been issued for the South Devon Coast, from Dawlish Warren to Seaton with the EA advising people to stay away from coastal areas at risk.
Thursday morning’s high water at Exmouth is at 10.30am and the tide is expected to be around 500mm higher than predicted because of wild weather conditions.
An EA spokesperson said strong force 7 south-south easterly winds and offshore wave heights of more than two metres were forecast to cause wave overtopping of sea defences and sea spray in exposed coastal locations.
The spokesperson said: “Expect tides to be around 500mm higher than predicted due to weather conditions.
“People are advised to stay away from risk areas and take care next to the coast.”
