PHOTOS & VIDEO: Ottery St Mary hosts East Devon Hunt’s 2020 New Year’s Day meet

Ottery St Mary hosted East Devon Hunt’s annual New Year Day’s meet, which attracted crowds of well-wishers and supporters to The Square.

East Devon Hunt master Shaun Carter welcomed onlookers, young and old, and wished the crowd a happy new year, thanking them for their continued support.

Before they set off Mr Carter reminded the field they were following a previously-laid scent and said they must alert hunt staff immediately to stop hounds if the pack deviated from the artificial trail.

Joining the crowd in Ottery to watch the hunt move off was retired huntsman Gerard Noel, of Rockbeare Manor, and Mary Moore, wife of Michael who was East Devon Hunt joint master until he retired.

The hunt, of around 25 riders, left Broad Street shortly after 11.30am and headed for Bishop’s Court, for the field’s first gallop.
