Join mass litter pick and help tidy Exeter canal tow path in time for New Year

Burn off some festive calories and volunteer for the mass litter pick being organised along Exeter’s canal tow path on Monday, December 30.

The litter pick has been organised by Friends of Exeter Ship Canal, starting outside the Double Locks at 10.30am and finishing at Piazza Terracina at 1pm.

A spokesperson for the event said: “The aim is for the tow paths and surrounding areas to be litter free for the start of the New Year.”

Volunteers can turn up on the day. Organsiers said ‘the more the merrier’.

Collected bags of litter and the return of equipment can be left outside the Canal Office, next to the Welcome Café, at the end of the session.

Volunteers can use washing facilities and toilets at the nearby Exe Water Sports Association.

Organisers recommend volunteers wear boots, or stout shoes, and protective or gardening gloves.  High-visibility clothing is also advised.

Gloves, high-visibility jackets and litter-picking equipment will also be available on the day.

Children are welcome at the litter pick provided they are accompanied by an adult.

Children should come equipped with their own protective gloves as child sizes will not be provided on the day.
