Rescue after two-vehicle collision on road between Luppitt and Smeatharpe

A female casualty was freed from a vehicle following a collision on a road between Luppitt and Smeatharpe yesterday (Monday) evening.

Police have issued an appeal for witnesses.

A spokesman said the collision involved a Silver Renault Megane and a Red Peugeot Boxer Panel Van.

They added: “The driver of the Renault sustained serious injuries. South Western Ambulance services, including the air ambulance, attended the scene and conveyed the casualty to Hospital.

“The main road remained closed to allow for a forensic examination of the collision scene.

“Officers from the Roads Policing Team are appealing for any witnesses of the incident to come forward.”

Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service said it was called to a report of a two-vehicle road traffic collision with one person trapped at 5.36pm. 

Fire crews from Honiton and Wellington attended.

A spokesperson said: “Once the crew got in attendance, the officer in charge confirmed this to be a road traffic collision involving two vehicles with one casualty trapped within a vehicle. 

“Crews got to work to release the female with the use of hydraulic cutting equipment.

“The casualty was released from the vehicle and assessed by the ambulance service on scene.  Crews made the vehicles safe.”
