Busy time for East Devon fire crews as they rescue motorists stranded in flood water

Heavy rain and high winds have seen fire crews from across East Devon assisting people to safety.

Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service says the past 24 hours have been busy as a result of flooding and people being left stranded in vehicles.

Crews from Exmouth, Honiton and Sidmouth have rescued motorists who have attempted to drive through deep flood water. They have also been assisting with flooding incidents inside buildings.

A spokesperson for the fire service said: “There were no casualties and anyone who did need rescuing were led to a place of safety, unharmed.”

A severe weather warning is currently in place and some rivers in East Devon are now subject to flood warnings.
