Chamber welcomes three new businesses to Honiton in the run-up to Christmas

The chairman of Honiton and District Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Tony McCollum, has personally welcomed three new businesses to the town centre.

He visited the owners of the shops to welcome them to the town and to raise the profile of what Honiton has to offer shoppers – not just in the run-up to Christmas but all year.

Among the new shopkeepers is Dean Auton, of East Devon Lock and Key. The shop is located at 126 High Street and specialises in domestic and commercial locks.

Previously Power Shoes, it also sells watch batteries and straps, engraved pet tags, household batteries, mobile phone accessories and shoe care products. Shoes are also taken in for repair undertaken by the previous occupants. It further operates as an agent for Ideal Dry Cleaning and Laundry Services of Exmouth.

Dean who has been in the locksmith trade for many years is skilled enough to hand-make keys for antique locks brought in by customers.

Mr McCollum has welcomed Clive Taylor, of Taylors Leather Company, to Lace Walk.

Clive, who has run a successful similar business in Taunton, Somerset, decided to branch out and opened the shop last month. Although a local independent business ,the store holds many of the top branded names in men’s and ladies’ shoe wear. Other items include bags, travel luggage, clothing and anything made of leather.

Kate Dixon, of Kate Dixon Photography, was visited by Mr McCollum at at 59 High Street last Friday (December 6).

Kate has been a professional photographer for nine years specialising in weddings and family portraits. She has run a busy and successful business in Exeter for three years and moved to Honiton to be close to home.

As well as the photography, Kate produces prints on behalf of customers and creates T-shirts, mugs and gifts emblazoned with the images.

If you have ever wanted a passport photograph and find the coin operated booths tiresome and unfriendly then Kate is the go-to photographer. She will take and print your passport photographs for a personal touch and for the same price as the automated booths.
