December’s late night shopping evening in Budleigh Salterton has fun for all the family with circus skills for kids, street performances, stilt walkers, live music and Father Christmas in his grotto.
This year’s festive fun goes hand-in-hand with supporting Budleigh’s High Street as the town champions its traders and the unique buys that can only be found through shopping locally.
Organisers say the widely-anticipated late night shopping evening of traditional family fun, on Friday, December 6, from 6pm until 8pm, will be ‘bigger and better’ than before.
In a change from previous years, the procession through the town has been shelved to allow for the entertainment to start earlier.
Highlights this year include circus skills, musical performances from Imperial College Operatic Society (ICOS) and Renaissance Choir, plus The Ukulele Band and Exeter Railway Band.
Father Christmas will be in his grotto, there will be arts and crafts, while pupils from St Peter’s, Drakes and Otterton primary schools will entertain with performances in the High Street and Fore Street areas.
You can see stilt walkers and have the chance to take a selfie with Jack Frost.
Mike Hilliar, Budleigh Salterton and District Chamber of Commerce chairman, said: “A lot of people are excited about it this year. They are excited it’s going to be slightly different from normal.
“We are hoping to make it bigger and better this year.”
This year’s late night shopping event highlights the importance of showing support for Budleigh’s businesses through buying locally.
Budleigh Chamber of Commerce is encouraging shops to display #whereyoushopmatters in windows and on doors, and is offering free campaign material to help businesses to get started.
Mr Hilliar said: “We are promoting our High Street shops – each one offering unique products that you won’t find anywhere else. You won’t find them on Amazon or eBay.
“Spending £5 in each shop will do them the world of good.”
