Brixington man, 22, denies raping woman in Exmouth

A Brixington man has denied accusations he raped a woman in Exmouth town centre in September.

Andrew Smith, aged 22, of Hawthorn Grove, Exmouth, appeared via video link at Exeter Crown Court today, Thursday, November 14, where he pleaded not guilty to two counts of rape, one count of sexual assault, and one count of assault on September 21, 2019.

Smith, who spoke only to confirm his name, nationality and enter his plea when the charges were put before him, was remanded in custody by Judge Peter Johnson, sitting at Exeter Crown Court.

Judge Johnson told the defendant he will go on trial before a jury at Exeter Crown Court on March 2, 2020.
