Exeter will mark the 75th anniversary of VE Day with a big street party for residents and visitors in the city centre next summer.
The major celebrations will take place on Friday, May 8, 2020, across Princesshay, Bedford Square, High Street and Cathedral Green.
Exeter City Council and its key partners are coming together to organise the event.
There will be a ‘Military and Community Village’ on Cathedral Green featuring a day of family fun and live music from The Liberty Sisters and Steve Knightley.
Councillor Rachel Sutton, lead for climate and culture, said: “The 75th anniversary of VE Day is a perfect opportunity for a big street party in the city centre and I am delighted that Exeter will mark the day in style.
“It will be chance for communities to come together, to celebrate and have some fun, but also to reflect on the importance and significance of this day, when war finally ended and people were once again able to look forward to a brighter future.”
