Police issue scrap metal warning after ‘suspicious’ incident in Exeter

A ‘suspicious’ incident involving characters in a white van spotted seeking scrap metal in the Exeter area have sparked a warning from police.

Residents have been told to keep an eye out for anyone looking round their properties uninvited.

They have also been urged to ensure anyone removing waste is licensed to do so.

A Devon and Cornwall Police spokesperson said: “Residents are asked to be vigilant following a report of persons travelling in a white Ford Transit panel van wanting scrap metal

“The van and occupants were seen in the Exeter area recently asking for scrap metals in suspicious circumstances.

“They may travel anywhere in Devon and Cornwall.

“Please ensure that any person removing waste from your premises holds a waste carrier’s licence and exercise caution when people arrive uninvited looking around your premises.”
