Free suicide prevention talk at Budleigh Hub will create safer communities

A free suicide prevention and awareness talk being held at the Budleigh Hub this month will help stop the stigma in East Devon, creating safer communities.

The suicide awareness talk, on Tuesday November 19, at 2.30pm-4pm and 6pm-7.30pm, at the Budleigh Health and Wellbeing Hub, East Budleigh Road, is suitable for anyone aged over 15 years old.

The 90-minute free session, with Action to Prevent Suicide, aims to deal openly with the stigma attached to suicide, common myths, and how communities can support prevention work.

A spokesperson for the event said: “It aims to dispel common myths around suicide, including the fear that talking about it promotes suicidal behavior.

“The session invites all participants—regardless of prior training or experience – to become more aware of suicide prevention opportunities in their community and to take the essential first step in creating suicide safer communities.”

The session includes:

  • Common myths around suicide
  • The latest statistics around suicide
  • Explore why communities should talk about suicide
  • Steps to help understand how someone might be feeling and what you can do to help them
  • What is available in the local community.

Places are limited. Book at Budleigh Hub reception or call 01395 446896.
