Tesco is celebrating the opening of its store in Budleigh Salterton on Friday by giving away cash and food to charities.
The Tesco Express store, in Fore Street, officially opens to the public for the first time at 8am on Friday, October 25.
To mark the opening, the store is donating £250 to Debbie Newson, of Budleigh Salterton, who is running the London Marathon for Hospice UK.
Food donations will be given to local charities and community groups as part of Tesco’s Community Food Connection surplus food donation scheme – an ongoing project..
Store manager Adam Williams said he and his team were excited to be opening the new store.
He invited local charities and community groups to come along on the day and receive food from Tesco’s Community Food Connection surplus food donation scheme.
He said: “This store has been planned for some time, so it is great to be able to finally open the doors and serve the community here in Budleigh Salterton here for the first time.
“We have recruited a lot of new colleagues from Budleigh and they are looking forward to opening our new store and welcoming customers.
“The store is looking great and we are now really keen to start trading.”
The new store, which has a new ATM cash machine for shoppers, has created more than 20 jobs.
Tesco Express Budleigh will be open daily from 6am until 11pm.
