Exmouth house fire: woman released under investigation, say police

A 54-year-old woman arrested on suspicion of arson following a house fire in Exmouth has been released under investigation, say police.

The emergency services were called to a bedroom fire in Lovelace Crescent, Withycombe Raleigh, on Monday night where firefighters rescued a woman and her pets from the property.

A 54-year-old Exmouth woman was arrested on suspicion of arson on Monday (October 7), and remained in police custody.

Devon and Cornwall Police said she has been released under investigation while enquiries continue.

A police spokeswoman said: “A 54-year-old woman has been released under investigation pending further enquiries.”

Police were called to Lovelace Crescent by Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service.

Firefighters from Exmouth and Budleigh Salterton rescued a woman from a home in Lovelace Crescent shortly after 8pm, and she was taken to hospital to be checked over.

A fire service spokesperson said: “Fire crews were soon on scene and confirmed a small fire in a bedroom of the property.”
