Large number of 999 calls report house fire in Whipton Village Road

A total of six appliances have been dealing with a house fire in Whipton Village Road, Exeter.

Crews from Danes Castle, Topsham, Exmouth, Newton Abbot and Teingmouth have been tackling the blaze, reported shortly after 11am.

The severity and likely cause of the fire has not yet been made public.

Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service said it initially sent two appliances from Danes Castle.

A spokesperson said: “Due to the amount of calls and information received, a third appliance was sent on from Topsham.

“On arrival, the officer in charge requested the attendance of a fourth appliance and so this was sent on from Exmouth. The fire involved a domestic property measuring 10 metres by 15 metres.

“A further two appliances were requested and these were sent from Newton Abbot and Teignmouth.”

The last report on this incident stated the number of appliances on scene has been scaled back to four.
