Lifeboats launched to search for missing person

Lifeboats from Sidmouth, Exmouth and Lyme Regis were launched last night to search for a missing person in the Beer area.

Sidmouth Lifeboat was paged by Solent Coastguard at 10.25pm (September 24). The crew was asked to support the RNLI lifeboat crew from Lyme Regis.

A Sidmouth Lifeboat spokesperson said: “Sidmouth Lifeboat agreed to launch, subject to regular review of the weather conditions, with near gale force 7 due within the hour.

“Lyme then reported difficulty making headway against the weather and likely very difficult search conditions on scene. With that in mind, Solent made the decision to task the All-Weather boat from Exmouth to the incident instead, and Sidmouth Lifeboat was stood down.”

At 10.55pm the Lyme lifeboat was stood down and returned to station, with Exmouth lifeboat en route.
