UPDATE: Police investigating Exmouth sex assault appeal for CCTV and dashcam footage

Police are appealing for people to check CCTV and dashcam footage after a woman was sexually assaulted in Exmouth town centre in the early hours of this morning (Saturday, September 21).

Officers said a serious sexual offence took place in the alleyway that leads to Co-op’s Magnolia Centre car park, between the Powder Monkey and Coral betting shop, on The Parade, at around 3.10am.

The Sexual Offences Investigations Team, at Exmouth, believe a suspect left the scene on foot, walked through the Magnolia Centre, onto Exeter Road and into the Withycombe area.

Officers seeking information are asking people to check CCTV and dashcams for footage of a white male, wearing shorts and a T-shirt. He was seen walking on his own towards the Withycombe Raleigh area in the early hours of Saturday morning at around 4am.

Police are also keen to hear from anyone who may have seen a male or female enter or leave the alleyway between the Powder Monkey pub and Coral betting shop.

Police are appealing for people with private CCTV along The Parade, Rolle Street, the Magnolia Centre, Exeter Road and Withycombe Village Road, to check footage.

They are also seeking dashcam footage from motorists passing through the areas between 3.10am and 4am.

Detective Sergeant Darren Campbell, from the Sexual Offences Investigations Team, said: “If anyone has information that may assist with this investigation, no matter how small, please give us a call.

“We are appealing for people to check their own CCTV or dashcams.

“If anyone with a dashcam was passing through The Strand, Rolle Street, Exeter Road, into Withycombe, between the hours of 3.10am and 4am, it would be very helpful to hear from them.

“We would also like to hear from anyone who may have seen a male or female in the alleyway, or did anyone see anyone exit the alleyway, male or female?

“We would also like to hear from anyone that may have seen a male leave that area of The Strand through the Magnolia Centre and through Exeter Road to the Withycombe Village Road area.”

Devon and Cornwall Police said a local man was arrested in connection with the investigation and he has been released on bail for further enquiries to be completed.
