Search mounted for swimmer in difficulty at Exmouth

Coastguard rescue teams, along with the Exmouth RNLI lifeboat, mounted a search after receiving a report that a swimmer was in difficulty.

A person was said to be in trouble in the water between Orcombe Point and Exmouth lifeboat station.

The Beer Coastguard Rescue Team was requested to assist in the search.

It reported: “While we were en-route, the lifeboat did a search of the area speaking to swimmers and paddle boarders, and Exmouth coastguard searched from land and spoke to people on the beach.

“We arrived on scene as the searches were being completed.”

Nobody was found to be in difficulty. Land enquiries further revealed nobody had been reported missing from the beach.

The report, received on Friday (September 13) afternoon, has been logged as a false alarm with good intent.
