Police warn ‘avoid’ Ottery St Mary as flash floods hit the town

Police are urging people to stay away from Ottery St Mary because flash floods have turned streets into rivers.

Ottery St Mary Police said a ‘number of locations’ were under water. Officers turned to social media to show the depth of the flooding – some knee-deep.

Ottery St Mary Police made public a photo showing an officer knee-deep in water in Victoria Terrace.

Police are advising motorists and pedestrians to avoid flooded areas until the water has subsided.

Devon and Cornwall Police said there were localised road closures due to flooding at Salston Corner, Exeter Road-Daisymount into Ottery, and Mill Street.

South West Water, the Environment Agency and Devon County Council are aware of the flooding.
