New Honiton street names could include Peony View and Tulip Close

Suggested street names for a major new housing development in Honiton will be discussed by town councillors next week – and current ideas have a distinctly flowery theme.

East Devon District Council has asked for suggestions in relation to homes being developed by Taylor Wimpey.

The names put forward must reflect the environment and sustainability.

Current suggestions include: Rose Way, Tulip Close, Primrose Road, and Peony View. Other potential street names for the development will be considered as ‘alternatives’.

They have been taken from Parish Tithe maps and the 1842 Tithe Apportionment Transcription. Included are: Hill Close, Dock Close, Town Hills, and Hoopernhayes.

However, nothing is currently set in stone and councillors will get the opportunity to put forward their own suggestions.

The district council has asked for more than five names, listed in order of preference – in case Royal Mail raises any objections.
