Seven drivers reported after speed checks in Ottery St Mary

Seven drivers have been reported for speeding and another seven warned following an operation in Ottery St Mary.

The Neighbourhood Policing Team, together with Special Constables, monitored traffic in and around the town last Thursday (August 29).

Community Speedwatch volunteers were on hand to act as observers, police say.

The seven reported drivers were found to be exceeding a 30mph speed limit. Police report one was clocked doing 41mph.

Of those warned, some were given advice on minor vehicle defects such as having a light not working.

A police spokesperson said the operation was ‘positively received within the locality’.

The aim of the speed checks was to educate motorists and to reassure the public that road safety is an important part of policing.
