Axminster Town AFC beaten 5-3 in Newton Abbot

Axminster Town AFC were beaten 5-3 in their latest South West Peninsula League Premier East meeting with Newton Abbot Spurs.

The Tigers trailed 4-2 at half-time, but were the dominant force after the break and got back to within one goal, netting a third early in the second half.

However, defensive frailties showed once again as the Tigers conceded a fifth to slip to a third defeat in five early season league games.

Johnny Hurford, Jacob Rowe and Ben Allen scored the Town goals.

On Saturday (August 31) Axminster Town AFC entertain a Torrington side that sit 14th in the fledgling table, six places and two points below the Tigers.

Richard Hebditch, the centre forward recruited from Bridport during the summer, is expected to have recovered from a slight injury that kept him out of the Newton Abbot Spurs game to return to lead the line against Torrington.
