There’s Saturday football action for all three East Devon teams playing in the South West Peninsula League Premier Division East on Saturday (August 24).
Honiton Town FC are once again away – the Hippos cannot play Saturday home games at Mountbatten Park until the cricket season is completed.
Honiton Cricket Club share the ground with the Hippos and the Tolchards Devon Cricket League comes to a conclusion next Saturday (August 31).
Town, beaten 3-2 at home in midweek by Axminster Town, travel to Millbrook for what will be their fifth game of the new league term.
Millbrook sit second in the fledgling table and are unbeaten after four matches.
They began their season with a 1-1 home draw with Elmore a result they recorded again in a midweek visit to Elburton Villa.
They then won 3-1 at home to Torridgeside before enjoying a 5-0 win at Plymouth Marjons on Tuesday night.
Axminster Town AFC seek a third successive win when they entertain Newton Abbot Spurs at Tiger Way (3pm).
The Tigers, 5-0 home winners over Plymouth Marjons last Saturday, then won 3-2 on a midweek visit to Honiton Town.
The meeting with Spurs is arguably the division’s Match of the Day with the Tigers sitting fourth and the visitors fifth!
Newton Abbot Spurs have an early season record that mirrors the one for the Tigers – two wins and one defeat in three outings. They began with a 5-2 win at Holsworthy, but then suffered a midweek 2-0 home defeat to Elburton Villa before, last Saturday; they were 3-0 home winners over Stoke Gabriel.
Sidmouth Town AFC travel for the fourth time in five early season outings when they visit Brixham who are unbeaten after two games – a 3-0 home win over Honiton Town and a 1-1 draw at Dartmouth in midweek.
Town head for South Devon sitting eighth in the early season table.
The Vikings are the team to watch this early season in terms of goals scored in their matches for 23 goals have been scored in their first four games – nine by the Vikings and 14 by the opposition!
